2021 - 2022

Working in-house at Albert Heijn, the Netherlands’ largest supermarket chain, sharpened my eye for detail and data-driven design. I was part of the Assortment and Search team, but I also contributed to projects across other teams, broadening my impact.

Assortment & Search

My day-to-day work involved fine-tuning existing experiences while simultaneously tackling larger projects that reimagined parts of the user journey from the ground up — such as optimizing filtering on mobile.

Filter framework
For the new filtering UX in the app, we took a comprehensive approach, gathering insights from multiple sources. We began with a team brainstorm to collect ideas and set priorities. From there, our process was consistently informed by data, Baymard research, and benchmarks.
"Filters are used in a quarter of the orders"
Tatiana Ramirez Bedoya, report on mobile web filters, 2021
  1. Global Filters - Triggers a modal that includes all filters

  1. Quick Filters - Shortcuts from global filters, specified per domain.

  1. Specific Filters - Specified per search term or category. Priority over quick filters.

Blueberry Design system

Over time, we noticed inconsistencies creeping into the digital experience due to the multitude of teams and products. To address this, I collaborated with Joris Dijkhuis and Mo Agca to create a cohesive digital design system called Blueberry. This system meticulously defines design atoms, ensuring the main app and sub-brands become more unified over time.

Pressure Cooker

Every now and then, we brought together designers from various teams to brainstorm solutions to key challenges. One memorable session focused on the self-scan experience. I proposed a compact UI framework inspired by WeTransfer, which created space for campaigns while keeping the interface compact. This concept, based on my initial designs, has since been adopted by Albert Heijn. Creating widely appreciated, high-consumer interfaces remains a deeply rewarding experience.
